Patients with lymphedema can use their Medicare Part B benefits when purchasing prescribed compression products. What Medicare Now Covers

Medicare's new coverage includes:

 Coverage Requirements:

  • You must have a qualifying medical condition diagnosed by a Medicare-enrolled physician
  • Your doctor must prescribe the compression garments as medically necessary
  • The garments must be supplied by a Medicare-approved provider
  • Documentation must show that compression therapy is required for your specific condition

 

Coverage Requirements:

  • 3 compression garments per limb every 6 months

Eligibility

To qualify for Medicare coverage under the Lymphedema Treatment Act, the following conditions must be met:

  • Lymphedema Diagnosis: A confirmed diagnosis of lymphedema, supported by appropriate medical documentation.
  • Prescription for Compression Garments: A prescription from a qualified healthcare provider, such as a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or clinical nurse specialist.   • Medicare Part B Enrollment: The individual must be enrolled in Medicare Part B, which covers durable medical equipment (DME) and related supplies.
